The Behavioral Health program offers:

We believe that therapy is a collaborative process, strength based, with an emphasis on solutions. Everyone desires and needs feedback, guidance, and support throughout their life. Counseling is a healthy and positive way to empower yourself to make changes for the better.

Everyone experiences stress factors in their lives. Individual counseling with a trusted therapist can start the healing process needed to become healthy and productive. Ongoing support is vital for adults, children, youth, parents, and families coping with the emotional, medical, or relationship issues of everyday life. There are many forms of support and therapy for people of all ages. All individual counseling is viewed within the context of the whole family, since one family member experiencing problems can affect other members of the family.

Family counseling involves the whole family or several family members. This approach is used to help families work through and/or adjust to issues and challenges affecting the entire family. It emphasizes family relationships as an important factor in psychological health. We believe involving families in solutions is often beneficial.

We all have “blue” days or weeks and periods of extended grief after a significant loss, but depression is a sadness that doesn’t seem to get better. Recognizing depression in the older person is not always easy since it is often masked by other problems such as physical ailments, memory loss, confusion, lack of appetite and disturbed sleep patterns. Often depression in the elderly goes undiagnosed and untreated, particularly when they live in institutional settings.

One-on-one counseling focuses on supporting the individual and validating her feelings. The therapist helps the person verbalize feelings, and assist in building self esteem and having a more balanced outlook–reducing negative thoughts and beliefs. Individual therapy helps the older adult deal with the “whys” and “hows” of their thoughts, feelings and relationships. It can also help identify and support the strengths and useful coping mechanisms the older adult has utilized in the past. Thus, one-on-one therapy can reduce a sense of hopelessness and improve the outlook on life.
